The Ostrich and the Owl
The Ostrich and the Owl
Once upon a time up in an old oak tree
There lived an owl that I would see occasionally
And his best friend was an ostrich who lived on the ground
You'd often see the owl and ostrich hanging out
But the other birds disapproved wholeheartedly
"It's outright obscene", the other owls opined
"That owl ought not to occupy his time"
"With an ostrich, a bird we find obsolete"
They can't even fly you know
We think it's quite absurd
They stick their heads in the sand
At least that's what we've heard
They really are odd birds
It didn't matter to the Ostrich and the Owl
Those two birds were such good pals
They just enjoyed each other's company
Birds of a feather flock together, so they say
But what do feathers have to do with anything anyway?
Absolutely nothing... obviously
Well the owls weren't the only offended birds
An outcry from the ostriches was overheard
"It's an outrage in our opinion don't you see"
"This outlandish friendship we openly oppose"
"That ostrich ought to only be with one of our own"
"And owls are obnoxious ordinarily"
They stay up all night long
We think it's quite absurd
Their heads are screwed on wrong
At least that's what we've heard
They really are odd birds
It didn't matter to the Ostrich and the Owl
Those two birds were such good pals
They just enjoyed each other's company
Birds of a feather flock together, so they say
But what do feathers have to do with anything anyway?
Absolutely nothing... obviously
Now to the Owl and the Ostrich it just never occurred
That they were anything other than ordinary birds
They were obliviously happy in the end
They said, "We can't understand why the others object"
"or obsess over outward appearances yet"
"overlook opportunities to make new friends"
They won't keep an open mind
We think it's quite absurd
They sure have thick heads all right
At least that's what we heard
They really are odd birds
It didn't matter to the Ostrich and the Owl
Those two birds were such good pals
They just enjoyed each other's company
Birds of a feather flock together, so they say
But what do feathers have to do with anything anyway?
Absolutely nothing... obviously
